I think the car to the right is departing towards Sheraton Housing (or Matariya, depending on the direction.) The similarity in appearance always amazed me, since they were called two different names (Metro - Tram or "Toromay") even though they look really similar!
@Fady: if I got my history right, Cairo originally had two separate systems. The city tramways were operated by the Cairo Transport Authority, and ran all around Cairo (from Shoubra down to Abbasiya), and partially into Giza. The Heliopolis network, along with the Heliopolis metro running into the Railway Station (the terminus was once located outside the Ramses Hilton Hotel), was owned by the Heliopolis Development Authority. Now, as the city tram network is essentially no more, the Heliopolis trams and the metro have transferred to the C.T.A. However, even when the C.T.A. and Heliopolis had their own tram systems, these were both always compatible in terms of vehicle dimensions, track, and voltage - so a merger of the two was never a problem.
