Egyéb információThis company`s roots can be traced back to 1875, originally as Bristol Tramways. In 1887 the Bristol Tramways Company merged with the Bristol Cab Company to form the Bristol Tramways & Carriage Company. The company grew in the early 1900`s with operations in Bath from 1909, Weston-super-Mare from 1910, Cheltenham from 1912 and Gloucester from 1913.

In 1908 the company started building it`s own buses, which led to the creation of the bus builder Bristol. In 1955 the bus manufacturing business was split from the company to form Bristol Commercial Vehicles.

In 1928, the company acquired control of another Bristol company, Greyhound Motors, which had started the first long-distance coach service between Bristol and London in 1925. The company continued to operate its coach services under the Greyhound name until 1972.

By 1932 Bristol Tramways became linked with Western National Omnibus Company, which was part owned by the Tilling Group.

In 1936 the company took over the city services of Gloucester as well as Bath Electric Tramways Company.

From 1937 Bristol Tramways formed Bristol Joint Services together with the city council, known as Bristol Corporation. This lasted until 1978.

In 1941 tram operations in Bristol were closed, the name Bristol Tramways was still kept for another 16 years.

The Tilling Group sold their bus interests to the government in 1948, which saw Bristol Tramways nationalised. Bristol Tramways gained the services of Red & White and Western National around Stroud and Gloucester in 1950. Additionally Cheltenham District Traction fell under the operation of Bristol Tramways.

In 1957 the company changed its name from Bristol Tramways to Bristol Omnibus Company. In 1963 the company passed to what became the state-owned National Bus Company.

By 1983 the National Bus Company split the operations of Bristol Omnibus in two: the Cheltenham & Gloucester Omnibus Company taking the services in Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud and Swindon. The operations around Bristol, Bath, Somerset and Wiltshire remained with Bristol Omnibus Company. What remained of Bristol Omnibus Company was split into two: Citybus for services in the city of Bristol and Bristol Country Bus for services in Bath, Somerset and Wiltshire.

The Citybus operations can be found under First Bristol. The Bristol Country Bus operations can be found under Badgerline.
