Thanks. A rare bus - I don't think we have seen it before....
Hi Dave, I think the told us that this is a museum restoration job for Budapest (trolleybus, not bus). 259 (ex T323) maybe? Unless there is a second survivor...
You can find a picture at http://kozeg.blogspot.com/2009/05/30-eves-szegedi-troli.html - perhaps this is not Budapest #259, but another bus?
I think it is 259. 60T (T indicates trolleybus!).
Google translates the text as follows: Two locally fabricated trolley. The ARC trolleybuses trolley future entrants may tender one, this produced a prototype vehicle at the Council of Representatives, the Ikarus 60T and the capital was in Szeged. Following the restoration if it is true, there will be vintage vehicles, but hopefully will be able to meet him in Budapest.
on a Hungarian webpage about Budapest trolleybuses this vehicle is listed as the last survivor of its class.
I can only guess but in the 2009 photo (as per your link) they had probably only finished the exterior for the open day. Your 2011 photo shows the exterior paintwork tightly wrapped - so maybe they were working (spraying) on the inside as the next step.
You're very possibly right - it would be interesting to know the current state of it and where it is - whether it's now completed and back in Budapest.
I fear it is not ready yet. Found another link on the web but it only shows the progress up mto 2009: http://www.old-ikarus.hu/veteran/T259/vet_t259k.html
Who knows if they have all the parts needed for the interior - and the electric equipment...
OK, I've seen enough - http://www.old-ikarus.hu/veteran/T259/vet_t259k.html shows this vehicle actually in the Szeged workshop, so I'm now happy it's the ex-Budapest #259. What a nice bus it will be when it's finished
We should try to charter it when it is finished (on the way to another trip to Arad - in 1-2 years maybe)… Hopefully they will not just restore it as a non-motored exhibit. Seeing what they did with diesel buses in Szeged (and Gdyina) they should be able to use any spare trolleybus equipment (the ZIUs are going now that BKV bought those Eberswalde trolleybuses).
