28 years as a bus carrying passengers - extraordinary result. Is there any plan to preserve one item for museum?
It is said that 2 units will be preserved as museum vehicles. However, I`m afraid that since we don`t have a public transport museum yet, the preserved units will be pillaged in the depot and left under open air and eventually rust to a point beyond repair. Some historical trams, for example, misteriously went missing from Krasna Polyana depot. From others only rusty skeletons remained after their parts have been taken during the years. Recently, however, an association of public transport enthusiasts urged the mayor of Sofia to conserve the remaining historical trams stored in Krasna Polyana depot. The trams were transported to Tramkar, the former tram factory in Sofia, where they will be protected from the weather until their eventual restoration. So hopefully the preserved Ikarus buses will be restored some day as museum vehicles.
I just received information that 2412 and 2427 will be the preserved vehicles.
