Our development ministry said that there's no need for the Volán line because of the paralel train line.
so such lines are subsided? I'm very interested in how local, suburban and long distance routes are subsided. For example in Poland there is no subsidization for long distance transport at all - only for local routes or even not.
In Hungary now mostly Volán's have all the long distance lines within the borders of the country. They have the same prices, with lots of discounts for different people.Students and retired people under the age of 65 have 50% of, underprivileged people have 90% of, and citizens over the age of 65 can travel for free. The same as on reigonal/suburban lines, and on the trains as well. On urban lines the students and retired under 65 have different reduced fares, depending on the city, but underprivileged and over 65 people travel for free. The companies have huge deficits because of the discount system, what is not refunded by the country or the cities or at least not as much as needed. BTW the market of the suburban/regional and long distance transport will be open from 2016 We'll se what will happen then.
